Medical Screening for food handlers

The medical screening was conducted to assess the health status of food handlers and to identify any potential health risks. The screening included a physical exam, a blood test, and a stool test. All food handlers who participated in the screening were given a certificate of fitness to handle food.

Akatsi North DCE Affirmed

The Akatsi North District Assembly on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, approved the President’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Simon Peter Ofosu.

Mr. Ofosu obtained 13 out of the 18 votes cast, representing 72.2%.

Addressing the Assembly after the declaration of the result, Mr. Ofosu thanked the Assembly members for the confidence reposed in him.

He pledged to work hard to deliver on the mandate given to him by the President and the people of Akatsi North.

Mr. Ofosu also assured the Assembly that he will be a listening leader who will work with all stakeholders to develop the district.

He said he will focus on improving education, health, infrastructure, and agriculture in the district.

Mr. Ofosu also pledged to promote peace and unity in the district.

The Director of Agriculture Akatsi North, Mr. Mawuli Abusah touched on the need for proper record keeping before planting, during and after harvesting crops. He said, expenses made on weeding, planting, harvesting, fertilizer, labour and land rent should be recorded to enable the farmer to know whether profit had been made or lost. Mr. Abusah stressed the need for farmers to form groups and associations for easy accessibility of loans and effective sensitization. They should also engage in good farming practices for higher yields.

Mr. Tony Agbesime, the Akatsi North District Budget Analyst, discussed the importance of paying taxes to the district assembly. He listed the various sources of revenue for the assembly, including the Common Fund, GOG, DDF/DPAT, PWD, and Donor Transfers. He emphasized that the Local Governance Act, Act 2016 [Act 936], mandates the payment of property rates and taxes to the district. Mr. Agbesime informed the participants that the assembly task force will soon collect property rates from communities, and encouraged everyone to pay their fair share towards the development of the district. His presentation highlighted the role of citizens in contributing to the progress and development of their communities through the payment of taxes.

The Akatsi North District presiding Member who was also the Chairman of the Public Relations and Complaints Committee, Honourable Patrick Kwame Ahiabu advised parents to send their wards to school to enable them to develop their potential. He stressed the need for the public to be sensitized on ‘Proper Disposal of Refuse’. Hon. Ahiabu disclosed that Dakpa will be soon divided into smaller units which include, Avenye, Tronogbe kope, Fiamotor and Mission divisions for easy administration.

Well Packaged Gari from Metsrikasa Gari Processing Factory

The District Chief Executive of the Akatsi North District was very delighted about the packaged gari from the Metsrikasa gari processing factory. He added that the value added to the gari through the assistance of the BAC directorate in the district was top notch and qualified to be exported to any market in the world. He advised the women to take their personal hygiene and the factory very seriously because their products would be marketed on international markets.

Inspection of Project at the New District Market, at Ave Dakpa

The Hon. District Chief Executive of the Akatsi North District led a team to inspect the on going district market project at Ave Dakpa. The team was impressed about the progress of work. The Hon. DCE thanked the contractor in charge of the market sheds and he applauded him for the speed of work.

Gari Processing Factory at Metsrikasa

The Hon. District Executive of the Akatsi North District Assembly, Hon. Dr. Prince Sodoke Amuzu was delighted to see the women making a good use of the gari processing factory established by the Assembly for the people of Metsrikasa to add value to their cassava. In a speech delivered by the DCE, he entreated them to make good use of the facility to improve upon their living standard.
