The Akatsi North District Assembly joined the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, together with the Chiefs and Elders of Agblonu, to commission a solar-powered mechanized borehole at Agblonu in the Akatsi North District.
The facility is expected to provide the community with reliable access to potable water and contribute significantly to improving the health and general well-being of residents.
The Assembly notes with delight that the commissioning formed part of activities marking the birthday celebration of the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu — a fitting and meaningful way of marking the occasion through a project that directly benefits the people.
The Assembly commends the Regional Minister and all stakeholders whose efforts and support made this important intervention possible, and reaffirms its commitment to working with all partners to bring similar developmental projects to communities within the District.
A sod-cutting ceremony has been held for the construction of a Cancer Centre at St. Anthony Hospital, Dzodze.The ceremony took place on Saturday, September 19, 2026.The District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, represented the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, at the ceremony.
The project, being sponsored by the Catholic Church, will upon completion become the third cancer treatment centre in Ghana, marking a significant milestone in the provision of specialised healthcare services in the country.In an address delivered on behalf of the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani conveyed the appreciation of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to the Catholic Church for the visionary initiative.
He noted that the centre will complement Government’s efforts to improve access to quality and specialised healthcare, reduce the burden of cancer on patients and families, and help save lives through early detection and treatment.He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Regional Minister and the Coordinating Council to collaborate with the Catholic Church, health institutions, traditional authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of the project as a centre of excellence for cancer care.
The ceremony was attended by Most Rev. Gabriel Edie Kumordjo, Bishop of the Keta-Akatsi Diocese and a delegation of Catholic Rev. Fathers, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu South, Hon. Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ketu North, Hon. Prince Kobla Amenaki, Chiefs and Traditional Leaders, as well as management and staff of St. Anthony Hospital.
The Akatsi North District Assembly has commissioned five newly completed educational infrastructure projects across the district in a bid to improve teaching and learning.
The commissioning ceremony took place on Thursday, September 17, 2026.The projects commissioned are: Kpegbadza Basic School – 2-Unit KG Block with ancillary facilities, Nyitawuta D/A Basic School – 3-Unit JHS Block with ancillary facilities, Avevoe D/A Basic School – 3-Unit Classroom Block with ancillary facilities, Hadave D/A Basic School – 3-Unit Classroom Block with ancillary facilities, Ashiagborvi D/A Basic School – 3-Unit JHS Block with ancillary facilities.
The new facilities are expected to provide pupils and teachers with improved, safe and conducive environments for effective teaching and learning.

The exercise, which took place on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, was led by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Bless Kwadzo Katamani, together with the District Director of Education, Mr. John Badzi, and management of the Education Directorate.The tour was to formally welcome new entrants, particularly KG 1 pupils, as they begin their formal education journey.
The team interacted with the pupils and presented them with educational materials, biscuits and drinks to make their first day memorable.The delegation also interacted with continuing students and teachers, observed teaching and learning activities, and encouraged pupils to take their studies seriously.

The Akatsi North District Assembly has provided financial support to sixty-five (65) Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the District as part of its commitment to improving their livelihoods and promoting inclusive socio-economic development.
The support, which was presented at a brief ceremony at Ave Dakpa on Monday, August 11, 2026, amounted to a total of Four Hundred and Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢420,000.00). Beneficiaries received between GH¢2,000.00 and GH¢8,000.00 each, depending on the nature and assessment of their individual needs.
The intervention covered key areas including business start-up and expansion, payment of school fees, healthcare support, and other essential livelihood empowerment needs aimed at enhancing the quality of life and economic independence of beneficiaries.Addressing the beneficiaries, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, admonished them to apply the funds strictly for the intended purposes and to use them judiciously.
He noted that the support is in line with Government’s commitment to leaving no one behind and urged the beneficiaries to see it as a stepping stone towards self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.The DCE further assured that the Assembly remains committed to the welfare of PWDs and will continue to implement interventions that promote their inclusion and well-being.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, the leadership of the PWDs expressed their profound gratitude to the Government and the Akatsi North District Assembly for the timely intervention and pledged to make productive use of the support.
The Akatsi North District Assembly has successfully completed Day Two of the distribution of relief items to persons affected by the recent floods and rainstorm in the District.
The exercise, which took place today, Wednesday, July 22, 2026, forms part of ongoing efforts by the Assembly and its partners to provide much-needed support and relief to affected households and to alleviate their plight.

The exercise commenced on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 and ended on Friday, June 19, 2026.The beneficiary communities and institutions are Hanyiwe, Kpohe, Kpeduhoe, Ave Senior High School, Ave Technical Institute, Metsrikasa, Atsata-Bame, Korve, Agormor-Agado, Avega, Avevoe and other areas.
The commissioning marks a significant milestone in ending decades of water shortages in the beneficiary communities. The ceremonies were characterised by excitement, with residents expressing their appreciation through drumming, singing and dancing.Addressing the gatherings, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani expressed his delight that the Assembly has been able to bring an end to the perennial water challenges of the communities.
He urged residents to adopt a strong maintenance culture to ensure the sustainability of the facilities.As part of measures to ensure proper management, Water and Sanitation (WATSAN) Committees were inaugurated in the beneficiary communities to oversee the use and maintenance of the facilities.
The Assembly remains committed to improving access to potable water and enhancing the well-being of all residents.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, has held his second Staff Durbar with staff of the Akatsi North District Assembly to deliberate on measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Assembly.
Key issues discussed during the Durbar included the Assembly’s revenue sources, revenue collection processes, staff conduct, and professionalism in service delivery.
The meeting also resolved to introduce staff morning devotion twice a week as a means of promoting unity, discipline, and team spirit among staff. Implementation of the initiative is expected to commence soon.
The DCE reiterated his commitment to building a stronger, more efficient, and results-oriented Assembly for the overall development of the Akatsi North District.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Bless Kodjo Katamani, today inspected the ongoing construction of a CHPS Compound with Nurses’ Accommodation at Metsrikasa.
The DCE expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work executed so far and commended the contractor for staying on schedule.
He was joined during the inspection by the enthusiastic youth of Metsrikasa, who expressed their appreciation to the District Assembly for the project and pledged their support to ensure its successful completion.

He noted that the projects are not only aimed at providing modern classroom facilities but also at improving teacher accommodation, which is critical to attracting and retaining qualified teachers in rural communities.

4. Nuaxove Basic School Construction of a 6-Unit Classroom Block with ancillary facilities, a 6-Unit Teachers’ Residence with ancillary facilities, and a 12-Seater Water Closet Toilet Facility.
5. Ashiagborvi Basic School Construction of a 3-Unit Classroom Block with ancillary facilities and a 2-Unit KG Block with ancillary facilities.
